Position: Safety Officer (Engineering)

requirements:
· Grade 12 or equivalent at NQF level 4
· Section 13/26D trade certificate as recognised by the MQA
· Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Assessment and Management (e.g., SAMTRAC, etc.)
· Certificate in Mine health and Safety legislation.
· ISO45001 Auditors Certificate
· Assessor/Moderator Certificate (advantageous)
· Chamber of Mines Certificates (1&2)
· At least two (2) years’ experience in the regular statutory reports compilation, reporting and monitoring
· At least five (5) years’ experience in an underground mining environment
Key performance areas:
· Develop, implement, and improve occupational health and safety plans, programmes and procedures in the workplace
· Ensure employees have been properly trained or possess the necessary training or qualifications for the safe execution of their work and conduct continuous on-the-job coaching/training as required
· Ensure compliance with relevant occupational health and safety legislation as per 2.17.1 appointment requirements; and
· Conduct machinery, equipment, occupational health and safety inspections, risk assessments and investigate workplace incidents
· Design and implement safety initiative programmes for areas of concern within your area of responsibility

requirements:
· Grade 12 with Maths (HG) and Science (HG) or equivalent at NQF level 4
· Chamber of Mines Strata Control Officers’ Certificate is essential
· Relevant Tertiary Qualification (B.Sc. Geology / B.Tech Mining / B.Sc. Mining / B.Eng. Mining, Mathematics, Physics)
Minimum five to seven (5-7) years’ experience as a Strata Control Officer in conventional hard rock underground mining:
Key performance areas:
· Geotechnically log all underground and surface boreholes (cover, geological) and log in Sable
· Log borehole cameras on Sable database and plot in Microstation daily
· Conduct on the job training on TARP and other Rock Engineering standards and procedures when underground or daily
· Management of the Strata Control Observers daily
· Provide a support function to production personnel during the planning process and the day-today running of the mine
· Monitor ground movement and ground conditions, assess areas reported as having encountered adverse ground conditions and assist the Senior Rock Engineering Officer with making
