Position: Project Manager

Location: KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape

Minimum requirements:
  • A Master’s degree in the social and human sciences or related fields; OR relevant certification, qualification, or experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience managing research projects involving human participants  
  • Experience managing multi-phase projects.
  • Experience supervising and managing teams
  • Experience in collecting data, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions
  • Fluency in English and Afrikaans
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work accurately, independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and attention to detail.
  • A valid and unendorsed driver’s license
Key responsibilities:
  • Planning, organising, and managing the project so that operational and scientific goals are achieved.
  • Participating in regular project team calls with collaborators.
  • Recruiting, training, and providing ongoing support, supervision, and mentorship to project staff
  • Collecting data
  • Fostering a culture of continuous learning through ongoing assessment of study activities, processes, and systems
  • Monitoring individual and team performance as per the HSRC performance management and appraisal processes
  • Assisting with the management of the budget and finances of assigned projects, ensuring appropriate use of funds for designated purposes

Position: Data Assistant (X5)

Location: Pietermaritzburg

Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in data entry, able to capture data efficiently and accurately.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in the research environment identifying data collection errors and facilitating corrections according to good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Able to understand and implement the data processing procedures for multiple projects as per the approved project protocol.
  • Able to engage and work closely within the component, and with project personnel to ensure the highest standards of data quality and adherence to the study protocol.
  • Willingness to work over weekends as and when required.
  • Ability to speak both isiZulu and English.
Key responsibilities:
  • Primary point of contact for assigned projects, leading data processing and quality checking per the project protocol.
  • Supervise issue and receipt of study documentation.
  • Data transmission and data downloads from data collection and processing tools
  • Ensuring timely data entry within agreed benchmarks for completion and data quality
  • Filing and document management and archival for assigned projects.
  • Identifying and flagging missing data for resolution
  • Query resolution and reporting
  • Quarterly data audits

Position: Post Basic Pharmacy Assistant

Location: Pietermaritzburg

Closing date: 30 October 2024

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Pharmacist’s assistant (post-basic) certificate of qualification from a provider of education and training approved by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)   
  • Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist Assistant Post Basic  
  • Proof of registration with the SAPC as a Post Basic Pharmacy Assistant
  • A valid driver’s license.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Stock management – ordering, receipt, issue / distribution, control, maintaining stock levels, record-keeping and storage (including daily temperature checks) of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals, expiry checks, stock rotation, stock-take, security, stock management and maintaining stock levels in various sections in the Pharmacy. 
  • Unpacking / receipt of stock received from suppliers
  • Pre-packing of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products
  • Manufacture / compounding of sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products,
  • Collection and recording of statistics and information. Assist in the compilation of reports.
  • Administrative functions associated with the receipt, supply / distribution of pharmaceuticals.
  • Counselling clients on medicine use and health education, provision of basic primary health education.

Position: Clinical Interviewer

Location: Pietermaritzburg

Closing date: 30 October 2024

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Psychology (equivalent to Honours level) or Bachelor of Psychology qualification or Bachelor of Social Work
  • Registration with the HPSCA as a Counsellor or Social Worker
  • Strong qualitative analytic skills.
  • Experience with multi-phase projects
  • Fluency in English and isiZulu
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work accurately, independently and in a team
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and attention to detail
Key responsibilities:
  • Working with the qualitative manager to ensure that data collection activities are conducted smoothly, ethically, and completed to deadlines
  • Recruiting adult research participants and key stakeholder informants (for example community health workers or clinic staff)
  • Scheduling and undertaking key informant and stakeholder in-depth interviews
  • Collecting interview notes and facilitating audio recording of the interview.
  • Recruiting participants and conducting focus group discussions with adults, adolescents and children
  • Participating actively in team review meetings and feedback discussions

Position: Masters Research Trainee

Location: Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg, or Pretoria

Closing date: 4 November 2024

Minimum Requirements:
  • Applicants must be in possession of a relevant Honours degree and be registered or about to register for a Masters degree in public health with a recognised South African or other university;
  • A sound grounding in research methods will be a strong recommendation;
  • Requisite computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office,)
  • Working experience with some of the following data software packages: STATA, Epi Info, SPSS, Nvivo, AtlasTI or other relevant statistical packages;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Collection and analysis of data;
  • Management or supervision of research projects
  • Participation in the conceptualization and execution of research projects;
  • Participation in the formulation of research questions and writing proposals;
  • Assisting with the submission of research proposals for ethical review;
  • Writing up of research results, research reports, and manuscripts for publication;
  • Presenting results of projects in different forums (webinars, conferences, seminars, and other forums);

Position: Editors/Writers (X10)

Location: Free State, Western Cape, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga

Closing date: 28 October 2024

Minimum Requirements:
  1. A master’s degree in Language, Journalism, Media and Communication or extensive experience in academic writing.
  2. Experience working in the social sciences and humanities is preferred.
  3. At least 5 years relevant professional experience as an editor/writer of high-quality English language publications.
  4. At least 3 years of experience in academic editing.
  5. Proficient experience in Microsoft environment including the use of OneDrive and academic software such as RefWorks.
  6. Proven experience in editing for scientific publications would be advantageous.
  7. Demonstrable writing skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  2. Content editing: Ensure the final product is professionally written, accurate and coherent.
  3. Language Editing: Assess drafts for linguistic quality, including grammar, syntax, and consistent use of terminology and style; correct errors and provide a certificate attesting to the language edit if required.
  4. Academic Editing: Edit theses for Masters and PhD candidates, ensuring clarity and scholarly quality.
  5. Technical Editing: Ensure consistency in font, size, and formatting according to specified requirements.
  6. Report and Publication Formatting: Format reports and publications according to guidelines.
