Position: EDUCATION AND EXHIBITS MANAGER 

Location: Braamfontein

Desirable Requirements: 

MA or MSc in heritage/paleoscience/archaeology/museology/ or related field.

• Educational experience (curriculum/ teaching/ resources).

• Experience in project management, including proposal/report writing and fundraising.

• Science communication experience (including media & websites skills).

• Understanding of Cradle of Humankind, Human Evolution, southern African Archaeology, Palaeontology, and Geology.

• Experience in public relations work, or working within public-facing organisations.

• Some Museum work experience would be advantageous. 

• Work-related experience, with some management of teams an advantage.  

responsibilities:

Work with the head of centre, research team, Operations Manager, stakeholders, the local community, Wits departments, and science communications specialists to develop educational and science communications programs and events based at the Wits Sterkfontein Caves.

• Develop short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategic goals for the education and exhibits program that incorporate a wide variety of stakeholders and communities.

• Cultivate long-term collaborative relationships with local and international museums to augment the education and exhibit program.

• Develop regular temporary exhibits that support the educational goals of the enterprise.

• Plan, with a broad range of relevant stakeholders, and implement the rejuvenation of the Sterkfontein museum space.

• Develop online and physical educational content for the Sterkfontein and Swartkrans media platforms.

Position: SENIOR FINANCE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

Location: Johannesburg

Closing date: 19 December 2025

Minimum qualifications/requirements/criteria: 
  • A BCom degree or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in financial roles with administrative management
  • Accounting and financial management skills
  • High level computer literacy (ERP, Excel, ORACLE systems)
  • Excellent communication, writing, reporting and negotiation skills
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with academic and support staff, students, and external role players
  • People management skills, punctual, deadline driven, proactive, decisive, professional, a team player, honest, courteous, at all times
  • Work effectively, efficiently, and independently with minimum supervision
  • An understanding Oracle and Business Object Systems, the University’s Administrative and Financial procedures and systems would be advantageous
Key responsibilities include:

Management of finances of multiple funding sources that includes responsible for the Planning of the School’s Budget, Project Management, Internal and External Projects, Research Incentive Grants, Advances, Subsistence, Reimbursements, Donations, Invoicing, Debtors, Creditors, Procurement, Bursaries and Stipend Payments, Reconciling of accounts, Journals, Audits, Petty Cash, Stores, Recoveries and Audit and Control.

Position: Senior Technician- Hydraulic Engineering

Closing date: 31 December 2025

requirements:

 • NQF Level 6 (National Diploma or equivalent qualification in an appropriate technical field).

• Excellent hands-on technical skills with hydraulic machines and power tools.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organisational skills.

• Good computer literacy.

• a valid driver’s license.

• At least 5 years of related experience, 3 years of which should be in a supervisory position.

responsibilities:

• effective supervision of the Technical Assistant, Hydraulic Engineering.

• carrying out investigations, overseeing and supporting teaching, learning and research activities in the hydraulics laboratories, on- and off-campus.

• full compliance of the Hillman Building and its laboratory facilities to Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHS&E) protocols.

• overseeing the manufacture, procurement and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

• ensuring that workspaces in the hydraulics laboratories are clean, tidy and free of clutter.
