Position: Executive-Mining Engineering

Location: Illovo

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • A relevant NQF level 7 Mining Engineering qualification is essential.
  • Post-graduate qualifications will be an advantage.
  • Relevant membership/licensing and certifications i.e. Mine Managers Certificate of Competency essential.
  • Minimum of 10 years deep-level mining experience, of which five years should be at senior management level.
  • Sound knowledge of the mining industry with in-depth understanding of platinum group metals (PGMs) mining, including mining processes, technologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of mining and environmental legislative environment, mine standards, COPs, risk assessment processes and systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide mining advice and support to the Implats executive and operational management teams.
  • Provide mining-related support and guidance to the mining operations and their planned expansion projects.
  • Work with the on-site teams to improve and optimise diverse functions, including reserve estimation, mine planning and scheduling, geotechnical analysis and ground support, mining method selection, mine project design, construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Contribute to process improvement and optimisation programmes, participate in mining review processes and track the implementation of agreed-upon improvement mechanisms.
  • Undertake mining-focused evaluations and conduct due diligence on growth initiatives related to exploration, joint ventures, and potential future merger and acquisition activity.
  • Participate in strategic planning and business planning processes.

Position: Chemical Engineer – BMR Utilities

Location: Springs

Closing date: 29 January 2025

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Chemical Engineering.
  • 1-2 years’ experience only required with a B-Tech degree.
  • Comprehension of chemical/metallurgical processes and project management, engineering principles required.
  • Basic understanding of applicable legislation i.e. OHSACT.
  • Computer literacy proficiency i.e. MS Office essential.
  • Strong organising and planning skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication-, presentation- and problem-solving skills essential.
  • Must be medically fit for Base Metal Refinery (BMR).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Undertake work alongside operations and complete relevant modules to indicate understanding and plant training familiarisation.
  • Identify problems and conduct research (troubleshooting, problem-solving and investigations).
  • Generate solutions to problems to address the nature, extent and complexity of the problem within the determined time constraints.
  • Update the basis of design, process operation and operation philosophy.
  • Conduct HAZOP studies and P&ID modifications.
  • Anticipate potential production problems through troubleshooting.

Position: Technical Mining Engineer 

Location: Illovo

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • NQF level 7 or higher qualification in mining engineering and a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency essential
  • Minimum 10 years deep-level mining experience, of which five years should be at senior management level
  • Sound knowledge of the mining industry with in-depth understanding of platinum group metals mining
  • Knowledge of mining and metallurgical processes, methods and associated technologies
  • Competent in strategy definition, formulation, communication and execution
  • Knowledge of the mining and environmental legislative environment, mine standards and COPs, risk assessment, safety and environment, as well as the relevant legislative, statutory, regulatory and permitting requirements
  • Sound knowledge of project management, mining engineering best practice and new technologies and innovation
  • The candidate must be a self-motivated, action-orientated, driven and energised individual
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Provide specialist mining engineering support to the Implats executive and operational teams on current operations, projects and technical studies
  • Work with subsidiary and associated technical teams to improve and optimise mine planning and scheduling, geotechnical analysis and ground support, mining method selection, mine project design, construction, operation and maintenance
  • Provide technical mining-related guidance to operations, projects, financial modelling and evaluation teams
  • Provide insight and recommendations to support the overall business objectives through detailed analysis and assessment of operational production and performance data
  • Lead and conduct mining-focused technical due diligence processes for the evaluation of operational optimisation as well as merger and acquisition initiatives
